Information for users on the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment
(applies to equipment from households)
Dear Customers!
In accordance with the Polish Act on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) of 29 July 2005 and the Act on Maintaining Cleanliness and Order in Municipalities of 13 September 1996, the consumer:
- 1 Is obliged to hand over waste electrical and electronic equipment to a collector of such equipment (Art. 35 of the WEEE Act).
- 2 The consumer may not dispose of waste equipment together with other waste (Art. 36 of the WEEE Act).
- 3 Leaving such equipment in a place not intended for it (e.g. throwing it into a bin, leaving it outside a block of flats or dumping it in a forest) is punishable by a fine of PLN 20 to 5,000 (Art. 74 of the WEEE Act).
- 4 Since 1 July 2006 the consumer has the right to return their waste electrical or electronic equipment free of charge to a shop that accepts waste equipment in a quantity not exceeding the new equipment sold, on a “1 for 1” basis, i.e. a fridge for a fridge, a TV for a TV, a hair dryer for a hair dryer, a fluorescent lamp for a fluorescent lamp, etc. (Art. 42(1) of the WEEE Act).
- 5 The consumer has the right to hand over waste electrical and electronic equipment free of charge at a collection point (Art. 37(2) in conjunction with Art. 35 of the WEEE Act).
- 6 Since 1 October 2006 the consumer can consult information on the addresses of collection points for waste equipment operating in a given municipality, which should be published by the municipality on its website and made known in other customary ways, e.g. on notice boards (Art. 3(2)(6a) of the UCiPwG Act).
